JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:
Manager of Strategic Operations - Memphis FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Strategic Operations

Department: Strategic Operations & Safety Administration Location: Memphis, TN

JOB OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Director of Strategic Operations, the Manager of Strategic Operations oversees all aspects of GPA Intermodal as it relates to Memphis and other Mid- American Arc locations as needed, as well as, administrative support functions.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborates with external GPA customers to monitor local service performance and identifies improvement opportunities.

  2. Collaborates with Class One Railroads and local intermodal terminals to ensure intermodal services are performed in a safe, timely, and consistent manner meeting GPA service expectations.

  3. Establishes an operating and BCO relations presence in Memphis, as well as other Mid-American Arc locations as needed.

  4. Partners with and develop relations with local drayage companies and chassis providers.

  5. Monitors performance metrics for Memphis Intermodal facilities and provides direction and recommendations when necessary.

  6. Coordinates with chassis providers to ensure assets are allocated to meet local demand.

  7. Coordinates with internal GPA departments to ensure all departments are informed of local Intermodal services’ performance metrics, initiatives, and strategic operating plans.

  8. Participates in local logistics meetings and forums while looking for additional opportunities to grow business via the GPA.

  9. Develops strategic operating plans to facilitate new intermodal business opportunities and improve the current intermodal supply chain’s performance in and around Memphis

  10. Monitors GPA Intermodal terminal activities and production levels as necessary.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Daily work assignment changes will be implemented at managements discretion. Cross training will be ongoing for the assistance in such an event. Ability to exercise prompt independent judgment. Ability to learn and manage the GPA computer systems. Excellent oral, written, and listening skills required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills desired. Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers, representatives of the shipping industry, and the general public required.

Education and/or Experience:

Four-year college degree in business, transportation, or related field required. Five or more years of experience in intermodal management required. Data analytical skills as wells as operational planning and/or management responsibilities with a railroad company, desired. Prior intermodal management experience required.

Other Requirements:

Must meet the criteria for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Valid state drivers license required.
